Dr. Rodwin Bahadur
Dr. Rodwin Bahadur is the Founder of Business In Gear.
In 1990, after ten years in various technical and business roles at Northern Telecom in Canada, Rodwin left to join Nokia OY in Finland, a then fledgling Telecom company that would become the game-changer in the emerging mobile industry. His experiences in this period stem directly from the challenges and achievements Nokia faced in successfully orchestrating their transformative change from a high-commodity/low technology company to the high technology/low commodity industry of mobile telecommunications. In hindsight, this became the catalyst of a lifelong journey of exposure, perspective and insight for Rodwin, working in global markets and eventually settling in Malaysia.
In 2005, after more than twenty five years in “the defining period” of the telecom industry, having worked for three of the industries leading companies; Nortel Ltd, Nokia OY and lastly Ericsson AB, he left to pursue entrepreneurial interests. Over the years, his roles in business, technology, market and strategic management prepared him for the multi-disciplinary demands of an entrepreneur, armed with corporate perspectives and practices.
His first pursuit was building a boutique Business Consulting and Management Development firm, which intentionally worked with MNCs across different industries in developing and executing strategies. This contributed valuable knowledge in strategic practices at a time of tumultuous change driven by the convergence of technological innovation, corporate dominance and a global economic downturn.
In 2010, with the telecom industry undergoing an onslaught from Over-The-Top providers (Skype, WhatsApp, Line …) who were redefining the industry, his focus shifted back to the telecom space with Business In Gear which sought to benefit from the industry disruption and carve out a segment of business in the convergence of Telecom assets and IT applications. By 2014, having participated in industry standardization, technology focus groups and several market definition programs in Asia and Europe, the company began transforming their business by developing solutions in the convergence of telecom and social media.
Since his childhood Rodwin has practiced a social consciousness, his philanthropic responsibilities in recent years have included working with orphans and youths in projects that enable the contributors of tomorrow to develop life opportunities, and change their position in life.
The diverse cultures, exposure and opportunities in his life have provided experiences that have been, and will continue to be, enigmatic! These lines from the Robert Frost poem; The Road not Taken, best describes his adventures;
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both.
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
The journey continues…
